Alvarinho, a family table and a palace
After about two hours north, we arrive in Monção and Melgaço to visit Soalheiro. This winery pioneered Alvarinho in Melgaço and is an international benchmark for the grape, set in the green Minho landscape. A tour and tasting show off its award-winning wines.
Lunch is at Adega do Sossego, a family restaurant serving authentic Portuguese cooking since 1991, in what was once the owner’s grandparents’ home. Expect their well-kept recipes: lamprey in season, roast lamb, veal or codfish.
In the afternoon we visit the 18th-century Palácio da Brejoeira, a national monument, with neoclassical rooms and magnificent gardens. At the end there’s a chance to taste one of the house wines or brandies. Then about two hours back to Porto in the Tesla.

12:30 — Lunch at Adega do Sossego: lamprey (in season), roast lamb, veal or codfish
15:00 — Palácio da Brejoeira (Monção), with optional tasting
16:30 — Head back to Porto
18:15 — Back at the Porto meeting point
