A farm, a cheese and a mountain
About two hours from Porto, Madre de Água is a working vineyard and farm. You walk the vineyards, named the most beautiful in the Dão region four years in a row, and the olive groves, then see the small dairy where Serra da Estrela cheese is made.
There are animals to meet: sheep, goats, Serra da Estrela mountain dogs and Lusitano horses. A horse ride through the vineyard is available as an extra.
Lunch opens with the farm’s own cheese, sausages, olives, olive oil and jams, followed by a regional main course with a modern twist, and Dão whites, rosés and reds through the meal.
In the afternoon we climb to Torre, the top of the Serra da Estrela at 1,993 m, past strange rock formations. At the summit, the small shops offer an impromptu tasting of cheese, ham and liqueurs. With snow and a little free time, you might even build a snowman.

08:00 — Pickup in Porto
10:00 — Madre de Água vineyard and farm: vineyard tour, how the cheese is made, and the animals (dogs, cats, horses, sheep, goats)
13:00 — Lunch at the vineyard restaurant with a Dão wine tasting
16:00 — Torre, the summit of the Serra da Estrela: cheese, bread and liqueur tasting
20:00 — Back at the Porto meeting point
